The Matador Pick is 6 3/4″ long from the teeth to the handle and 2 3/8″ wide (slightly less than 2 1/2″) with medium spacing*. You can use this pick to lift your roots for added volume, to remove parts from a twist out or to create the perfect fro! Please Note: Be conscious of the size noted above for the Matador Pick. It is not the size of a traditional afro-style pick in overall size and spacing between the teeth. The spacing between the teeth is similar to the HS5580*. Therefore, depending on the density of your hair and the style you want to create will determine if the Matador Pick is suitable for your hair regimen.

I have afro kinky hear and normally when styling my hair I may use an afro pick. The afro pick that I had before was made of plastic and had seams and every time I used it I would notice the amount of hair that came off in the comb. Since receiving my Matador pick I have noticed that less hair remains in the pick also the pick glides really well through my hair. Overall I am really satisfied with the product and I love it. Looking forward to buying more proucts from this company.

I purchased the pick to provide lift at the roots of my curly afro. I own several HS combs and love them all! I must state honestly that while this is a pick of fantastic quality, the teeth a too close together to go to the root of my short 3-4″ teeny weeny afro with a lot of resistance from my hair. I expected more, however I will use this item for a mother purpose, such as detangling ends as my hair grows! Overall great product, just wish the tines were more widely spaced.

I purchased this pick when I first saw it offered & now that I have used the pick I am glad I purchased it. I get good height & volume for my natural 4a&c hair. The pick glides through my hair with ease and does not pull or get tangled in my hair!!! Great Job Hercules Sagemann!!!!!!

I have several different combs from Hercules Sagemann and they’re all super gentle on my hair. I threw out any comb from any other brand because they’ll never measure up to these. Just ordered 4 of these to make sure I always have one for back-up. It goes through my curly /wavy hair like nothing. I have a ton of curly frizzy baby hairs that get caught easier on a comb then the rest of my hair, but not with these combs. They’re very sturdy, do not tug or pull hair, it’s all you’ll ever need. AND they give a ton of volume. Look no where else.

Sometimes, I find it easier to get tangles out of my hair by starting with a pick. I bought this pick for that purpose, and to comb my short natural hairs. It works great for keeping my natural hair neat, but didn’t work as well for remving the few tangles I get in the relaxed hair. I resorted to using the Magic Rake to get out any tangles I had. The other concern I have is whether the teeth will be wide enough to provide lift at the roots as my natural hair grows longer. Only time will tell.

When I saw this pick I said yes finally someone was dreaming with me because I could never understand why someone would make a pick and about an inch before the end it is so thin that it does not lift your hair it simply gets distorted. This Matador Pick is a classic it is well proportion, it lifts my twist out very easily, I have type 4 hair the pick is also good for detangling I style my hair with the pick it has a nice handle to hold and it is smooth and you will simply love it.

I bought this mainly as a replacement to another brand of Afro comb (ie plastic with extrusion lines that damage the hair). After reading the reviews I was initially concerned it may be too small but have been pleasantly surprised that it’s still perfectly usable for the same job I use it for even though it’s not as wide as my other afro comb – ie combing through thick curly hair in the shower. I find the Matador is a better choice for use in the shower than the MS5660 Magic Star Jumbo Rake and the MS5600 Magic Mini Super Star Rake Curve, which have VERY widely spaced teeth and may be better for dry hair as opposed to wet hair. The other option I find good on wet hair is the HS5580 Styler Comb, as the teeth are spaced a good distance apart and it covers more hair than the Matador.

I have coarse 4C coily hair and this product really helped me to detangle wth minimum hai breakage. The teeth are strong and the pick is much more substantial than other lower cost versions. Absolutely love this product.
